We the People, 2026

Painted for America’s 250th anniversary, We the People, 2026 returns to the composition of the 2003 We the People, several hundred portraits woven into the stripes and stars of a single flag, and carries it forward with figures who have shaped the nation’s recent history. The new portraits emerge from the flag’s fabric using the same technique as the original.

Each stripe of the flag holds a distinct era, and each face is placed by period, so the composition is organized by history, not by politics. Each of the 250 prints is signed and numbered by the artist.
