Washington’s Headquarters at Valley Forge
Painted after Turner’s own visit to Valley Forge. Washington is shown returning from the stables after walking among his suffering troops, many of them afflicted by frostbite. The painting is about leadership carried through hardship, and about Valley Forge as the crucible of the American Revolution.
